Nothing is better in the summer than a vacation to the beach except maybe a great festival by the beach! Take a vacation to the Isle of Palms, SC right outside of downtown Charleston for an amazing beach vacation with a ton of great activities, attractions and festivals going on! The Isle of Palms is a small barrier island located off Mt. Pleasant and is only a short twenty-minute drive from downtown Charleston. It’s beautiful beaches and ideal location makes it the perfect destination for a beach vacation with all the trimmings!

Vacation to the beautiful Isle of Palm during the beginning of June and experience the Sweetgrass Festival located just across the bridge in Mt. Pleasant. The Sweetgrass Festival is a daylong celebration of Gullah-Geechee cultural heritage that is prominent around the Charleston area.  The Gullah-Geechee culture was brought over by African slaves likely from the West Africa area and thrived in the lowcountry of South Carolina and Georgia. These slaves also brought over basket weaving techniques and began to weave baskets from the sweet grass that is native to Charleston. Sweetgrass basket making demonstrations and more will be a popular part of the Sweetgrass festival. There will also be Gullah-Geechee arts and crafts, vendors, children’s activities, dance and music performances and traditional storytelling at the festival.  The festival is taking place on Saturday, June 1st from noon to 8 p.m. at Waterfront Memorial Park in Mt. Pleasant just across the bridge from the Isle of Palms. This festival is fun for the whole family and is a great activity to check out on a day off from the beach.

Make sure to book your stay at the Palms Hotel for your Isle of Palms vacation to the Charleston area. The Isle of Palms is the perfect spot for a fun summer vacation with all the trimmings!
